Science is a collaborative endeavor. We rely on others to challenge our thinking, stretch our perspective, and encourage our strengths. In this class, expect to collaborate with many people and be open to growth.
Answers to Common Questions...
Question: What if nobody in my group knows what to do?
Answer: Check the Group Roles and make sure each person is assigned. Although all members are expected to participate and contribute to discussion, having a specific role can help people feel more productive in the group. Ask a nearby group or Mrs. Bishop for further instructions.
Question: What if I'm absent?
Answer: Email the teacher with specific dates you missed and she will work with you to get caught up. You may not be able to participate in discussions, but an alternative can always be developed. You can also ask a peer for copies of notes or help with an assignment.
Question: What if there's conflict in my group?
Answer: Listen and stay calm. Often times conflicts arise because we fail to understand one another's perspective. Seek first to understand, then openly discuss to come to a compromise if necessary. If you need help with this process, ask Mrs. Bishop! We are all learning how to communicate, each conflict is another opportunity to try out and fine tune our skills.
